Two words: Immunity and Micronutrients. They have been around for quite some time and have recently reached a popular note during the present crisis. Suddenly we are discussing the best way of building up our immunity, using all the different molecules, herbs, or even patented remedies. Perhaps IV’s, amino acids, or shots would be more effective. Maybe there is some truth to all those forms of delivery or remedies. However, if we do not take care of the basics, it does not matter. You can build a wonderful suite on the top floor with mountain or ocean views, but if the foundation is not solid… well you can see where I am going with that. So, let us go back to some basic concepts…

In school we were introduced to the periodic table. We were told about vitamins, enzymes, and minerals. In classes such as chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry, cell biology, microbiology, etc. we were given pathways and tables of mechanisms to memorize. We did and we got by and passed the tests and then moved on. Later in our studies we would move on to other concepts like diseases and medicine, and all those preliminary studies would fall into the background. We knew about them, but frankly they were no longer as important. We would assume, what most people assume, that the body takes care of itself. There was even a belief that taking vitamins was a big waste of money; that we would get all we needed from the food we ate, and that the body knew what it needed and extracted everything necessary to remain in good health… and if we ended up with problems, well that what medicines are for!

Well… Yes and no.

Yes, medicine can help us overcome diseases and can help us manage chronic illness. No, our bodies do not always extract all the nutrients that is needed, and deficiencies arise. Without proper forms of measurement, the individual may not recognize these deficiencies.

A basic review:

The body and brain are an electrical-chemical organism. The chemistry (the elements, micronutrients etc.) help create energy, which converts into an electrical charge. Bottom line: we need ENERGY. Like the gas or the electrical charge of your car… no energy means we are not going very far.

Immunity: Found in the Magic of Micronutrients

“Like the gas or the electrical charge of your car… no energy means we are not going very far.”

So.. what makes energy? What seems to be popular now is an organelle called the mitochondria. In my early introduction to science and to pass those early tests we just needed to know that the mitochondria was the powerhouse of all organelles in the cell… true, but why?

Well inside the organelle is a pathway called the KREB or citric acid cycle. Believe me when I tell you, that this was one of the most challenging pathways to learn in all cell biology. Luckily we just needed to know the basics: that it was a factory, and that it took in food products: carbohydrates, fats and protein, that it would breakdown (metabolize) these products down and use the vitamins and minerals to convert those products over and over again through a multidimensional conversion which at the end of the cycle would produce one molecule of Adenine Triphosphatase (ATP) and two molecules of H20. ATP being the mother of energy production for the entire body and brain.

However, what one needs to respect is that the cycle of energy production requires micronutrients. One or two deficiencies means no energy. Low quantities of them means low energy.

Time and time again, individuals will come in with symptoms of fatigue (walking wounded, I call them) and all the studies by their doctors are normal (no disease)… and yet, they feel tired, depressed, can’t sleep, anxious etc. Other factors (too many to discuss here) such as stress and alcohol use can strip away our micronutrients, so replenishment remains very important. It has been shown time and time again, as these deficiencies are corrected, there is an increase of energy, immunity, resilience, and many of these problems go away.

Let us keep in mind that this is not a quick fix, nor does it solve all problems. It is only meant to look at energy. You may still need medication, exercise, counseling, diet, exercise etc. However, this time you might have the energy and the increased immunity to do something about it.
